Nature journaling for me is a lot of times is learning about the plants or area that I'm observing. The act of sketching and painting with color helps me to remember the facts!
Thank you, Alma, for sharing your way of coping with anxiety by nature journaling and enjoying walks in the outdoors. Noticing the details, slowing down, observing, pondering, blind contour sketching -- these are all wonderful ways of redirecting our brain to focus on something else! I loved the swirl egg mass you found! I am so inspired to get out looking for nudibranchs as you have found so many unique ones - I find them quite intriguing! Looking forward to reading about more of your outings and thoughts!
Thanks, Karen. I saw from your IG that you are up in the San Juans, Lopez? I wonder if you will be able to go to the beach at low tide and tell me what beach you go to and what you see there. BTW - warning - looking for nudibranchs can become addictive! :)
Sure - I just posted a reel on my Instagram account of "under the dock" which was so fascinating to see and listen to! I also saw red sea cucumbers and another worm or something under the rocks (see a previous Instagram post), many crabs and these red fan like things sticking out of the sand under water that would retract when touched. I didn't see nudibranchs as I don't know how to look for them -- maybe we can meet up on a low tide sometime to search as I would really love to see them!
Karen, sorry to take so long to reply! As they say, “life happens.” There won’t be any good daytime lows for a while but I’ll let you know when they start happening again.
As you saw in my photo with Rowland, I'm reading "How to Do Nothing" right now. It's been on my list to read for quite a while, and I finally got around to picking it up. I'm really enjoying it, and I think you would to. We all have choices to make about where we "spend" our attention, and the forces of capitalism want it all focused on them.
Oh I'm glad you are reading the book! I am usually a bit worried about investing my money on books - so many times I just dive in and buy one that looks good and then get disappointed. It helps when someone I know gives a recommendation.
I love getting these updates and the thoughtful insight into how appreciating nature can be healing. I also LOVE seeing the sketches from the nature journaling.

I love the vague seagulls!
